Walmart Distribution in Ottawa adding jobs
The Walmart Logistics distribution center welcomed U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kansas, with a grand tour of the facility.
In the next two months, Moran said Walmart will employ 80 more individuals at the Ottawa distribution location, which already provides jobs for 800 employees.
“We want to see this facility stay here, we want to see it grow and we want to create jobs for Kansans,” Moran said.
One of Walmart’s initiative’s includes providing career opportunities to veterans. On Memorial Day, Walmart increased its commitment to hire veterans from 100,000 to 250,000 by 2020, according to the company website.
Moran said 1,300 veterans have been hired by Walmarts in Kansas, promoting a mutually beneficial relationship.
“It’s useful to the veteran to have employment. It’s useful to Walmart to hire veterans,” Moran said.
Walmart is an option for workers who are seeking higher wages, Mike Skidmore, Ottawa mayor, said.
“There’s a place to fix that problem,” Skidmore said. “Come here to get a job.”
